A resource kit about monitoring and reporting (PDF 1.3 MB)
The resource kit aims to assist councils and other organisations to implement an integrated approach to monitoring and reporting. The document was produced by the Monitoring and Reporting Community Outcomes (MARCO) team, a group of people from Waikato councils and other organisations.
Indicators for the Waikato region community outcomes
Indicators summarise complex information in an easy understandable way and help to check how well we are doing and where we could do better. A core set of indicators for community outcomes has been developed to track progress towards achieving the regional community outcomes.
How the core set of indicators were developed
An initial list of about 200 potential indicators were evaluated using a number of criteria, including: technical assessment (measurability, cost effectiveness and understandability), local relevance (survey of all twelve Waikato district/city councils), regional relevance (results from a Workshop, Nov 2005 with the Community Outcomes Working Group). A prioritised ranking list combines the results of all the above evaluations.

Maori/iwi indicators are currently being developed in a parallel process.
Indicator data analysis reports
Existing data and information about the core link set of indicators are collated and summarised in this report. Data gaps have been highlighted and recommendations included about how to address the identified gaps. The benchmark report is updated annually, and the reports from 2006 onwards can be found on the publications page.
Data access
Many different organisations collect data and indicator information. A database and data display tool is currently being developed to search and find out what indicators data exists in the Waikato region and what the results look like. The web-based tool will also provide access to the indicator data and explain how the data were collected and what the indicator means. The tool will be available in June 2007.
