This indicator measures the volume of waste disposed at landfills for the Hauraki District. Data used for this indicator came from multiple sources, some of which were inconsistent. Waste disposal is an important issue for the community, with older landfills posing environmental risks and new facilities requiring space and resources.

  • In 2005 1274 kg of waste was disposed of to landfill by each household in Hauraki District.
  • This equates to 472 kg of waste for every person living in the Hauraki District and is well below the New Zealand average (790 kg per person).
