This indicator measures the volume of waste disposed at landfills for Hamilton City. Data used for this indicator came from multiple sources, some of which were inconsistent. Waste disposal is an important issue for the community, with older landfills posing environmental risks and new facilities requiring space and resources.
- In 2005 2041 kg of waste was disposed of to landfill by each household in Hamilton City. This equates to 727 kg of waste for every person living in Hamilton City and is just below the New Zealand average (790 kg per person).
- The amount of waste disposed to landfill per person in Hamilton City remained relatively stable between 2002 and 2004.
