Proximity to work, study and recreation - Matamata-Piako District

Key points

Respondents to the 2007 Waikato Community Outcomes Survey were asked ‘The proximity to work, recreational facilities and other community resources varies from place to place. Using the scale where 0 is very dissatisfied to 10 being very satisfied, how satisfied are you with how close you live to each of the following?’

  • The majority of respondents (78%) were satisfied with the ‘proximity to schools’ but this dropped to only 49% for ‘proximity to other educational facilities’. This reflects in the CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) scores which range from 80.8 points for ‘proximity to schools’ down to 63.5 points for ‘proximity to other educational facilities’. The lower CSI scores for the ‘proximity to other educational facilities’ and the ‘proximity to recreational and leisure facilities’ show respondents are less satisfied with the proximity of these resources.
  • Matamata-Piako District residents were more satisfied about their proximity to schools (84.1), other educational facilities (68.4) and recreational facilities (74.9) than Waikato Region residents on average but very similar to regional residents regarding proximity to work (78.3).

What we want to achieve

The community outcomes we are seeking to achieve by improving proximity to work, study and recreation are:

  • Maori enjoy the same quality of health, education, housing, employment and economic outcomes as non-Maori.
  • We have a choice of healthy and affordable housing that we are happy to live in and that is close to places for work, study and recreation.
  • Maori have the ability to live on ancestral land in quality, affordable housing.
