Key points
This indicator measures the number of historic buildings removed from the Historic Places Trust Register. Registration does not necessarily mean that a place is protected. Protection of historic places is generally through the policies and rules in the District Plan.
- Several buildings and sites in the Region are deregistered each year but this is offset by a small number of new registrations each year.

What we want to achieve
The community outcomes we are seeking to achieve by reducing the number and proportion of heritage buildings demolished or removed from heritage records are:
- Heritage sites and landscapes of significance to whanau, hapu and iwi are preserved and valued.
- Our historic buildings and places are retained and cared for. New developments are designed to be sensitive to people, places and the environment.
